Questions and Answers
Where can I get the series schedule and entry forms for the races?
The schedule and forms are all available in this website.
Why doesn't the ECHC rule book cover...?
The Honda Challenge rule book is meant to be an addendum to the NASA CCR (Club Code and Regulation). The ECHC operates under NASA rules at all times unless superseded by the ECHC rule book. A link to the NASA CCR can be found in the Forms section.
Will I be required to run Sponsor decals?
Yes. If you want to be awarded series points, you must run series sponsor decals. Decals are provided free of charge. Contingency decals are optional and also provided free of charge.
What type of timing system does NASA-MA use?
NASA-MA uses the AMB timing system. Transponders may be rented for $75/weekend with a $300 deposit. They can be purchased at several places including the Atlanta Region SCCA.
Will I be guaranteed exclusive use of my number if I register it on the Permanent number list?
Yes, if ECHC is running in a separate run group. Drivers using numbers registered by another person will be asked to change them if the owner of the number is also signed up for the weekend. However, if ECHC is sharing the track with another race group, we cannot control the numbers of cars in another series. In this case, NASA registration will give preference to the driver who preregistered for the event the earliest. To register a number see the reserved numbers page.
Will the Honda Challenge be required to share the track with other race groups?
That all depends on the number of entries the Honda Challenge has. If we have a sufficient number of entries preregistered, we will have the track exclusively. Otherwise we will be required to share the track with another race group in the form of a split start. Having to share the track will hinder our ability to have standing starts or to fully enforce the driver code of conduct. It is also a possibility that practice and qualifying sessions are shared, but the race session is not.
What type of starts will the series use?
We plan to use standing starts at all races. This is subject to change if we are forced to share the track with another race group.
What is the race weekend format?
The typical Honda Challenge weekend will include 2 sprint races (one on Saturday, one on Sunday) of about 30 minutes each. Saturday's race will be for point, trophy, and contingency while Sunday's race is for points only. Each race will have corresponding practice and qualifying sessions. Expect about 2 hours of seat time per weekend.
Do I have to be a NASA member to compete in Honda Challenge?
Yes. Membership info can be found on the NASA homepage.
Do I need a special license?
Yes, a NASA competition license is required to participate in the series. See the licensing page for details on how to obtain a NASA racing license.
What kind of safety equipment do I need?
Roll cage, harness, fire extinguisher, SA helmet, window net, driver suit, and kill switch. Details can be found in the NASA Club Code and Regulations.
